If you are new to the Project:

The project was launched by the Belfast Local Community Action Plan to support faith and belief groups across our city. Faith and belief is a very deep part of the identity of many people, and so, something that they feel strongly about. There will naturally be disagreement between different perspectives but we can learn to disagree well. The Interfaith and Belief Project gives opportunity for both established and recently more visible faith groups to work together to present their own perspectives positively, while also building understanding and stronger relationships between – and towards – the many such groups that make up Belfast.

We need lots of participants to help us seek to change our city through this programme!

Together, we can help our city develop better understanding of difference, address sectarianism and racism, and embrace the benefits of diversity! Whether or not you are a person of faith, we invite you to be part of this programme.

Be part of the change you want to see!

Participation

Ideally we ask for 3–5 hours per month but we recognise that this depends on your circumstances.

You can choose from 3 different Streams:

  • Education & Awareness [Stream 1]: codesign content to learn how to interact with faiths and beliefs, for delivery initially in schools and youth groups. We want young people to use their abilities to make Belfast a shared, resilient, welcoming and caring city but to do so, they will need to work with those from different faith and belief worldviews than their own family or even their own local community. Good stream for content designers, facilitators and creatives!
  • Unity & Peace Welcoming Programme [Stream 2]: map the social contribution of faith groups for their communities and to welcome new people, and celebrate these. We will highlight best practices and identify gaps and needs and how to build capacity to fill them. Good stream for data management people, and those interested in community development and social action!
  • Celebrating Faith & Belief Festivals [Stream 3]: find common themes between the festivals of both established and recently more visible faiths and making them more accessible to a wider public through exploring commonalities and differences. We then deliver a social action event for the public around each theme. Good stream for event planners and creatives and those from Belfast minority faiths so we know about your festivals!

For further details, see our Participant Information Pack

You can sign up (above) to try any of these streams, or contact petertate@corrymeela.org if any questions.

The Belfast Local Community Action Plan is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
